Waiting on Ole Faithful

Yesterday Mare, Sue, Heloise, Loren and Cegie made a trip to Yellowstone National Park. We left Jackson around 10:30am and arrived at the park around noon-ish. The park is one of the most beautiful places EVER! We went straight to Ole Faithful and waited for her eruption. Unfortunately, the weather was kind of cloudy and gray so her water and steam flowing up 130 feet into the air was kind of difficult to see. We learned all about how she works from Park Ranger Sam Holbrook who gave us a 10 minute talk before and after the eruption. He was a junior high school teacher who has been working at Yellowstone every summer for 42 years!! We also walked around the other springs at Ole Faithful and checked out some of the other springs in the area. Sam told us that of the 600 hot springs throughout the world, Yellowstone holds over 400 of them!

After out adventure to Ole Faithful, we went to the upper and lower falls which were the coolest things ive ever seen! We started up at the upper falls which were really beautiful. Then, we went and saw the lower falls which were AMAZING!! The pictures do it no justice. Yellowstone is so large that one day is not even close to enough time to spend there. Hopefully soon we can camp out and spend more time there. The only downfall is that we didnt see a bear or a moose!! But, we did see a whole bunch of elk and buffalo! Horeseback riding on Thursday....

Jackson Lake

Today Loren, Claire, Cegie and Suzanne went to Jackson Lake. The weather was pretty bad in Jackson so we drove a little while north of town to Jackson Lake and it was beautiful!! The lake was huge. We hiked around the lake for a while on the search for a Mama Moose and her two calves. But we had no luck. The hike was wonderful though. There is a boat dock where you can rent canoes, kyaks and other boats. We plan on going back when it is wamer and staying the whole day on the lake. We stopped at the Jackson Lake Lodge for a late lunch. The lodge was amazing and the food was great! Another great day!!

White Water Rafting!

Maggie and Suzanne got to go for a free white water rafting trip! The hotel we work for sends a lot of customers to Jackson Hole Whitewater so they gave us a free trip! We went rafting down the Snake River. It was so much fun! And beautiful scenery of course, as with everywhere. We went with two guys we work with, Anthony and Peter (a bellman and server). There were 12 of us on the raft, so 2 people didn't have to paddle. Suze sat right in the middle of the raft like a princess along for the ride. Little did she know that meant she was going to get soaked with 40 degree water! Even with the wet suits on, it was still freezing. She definitely got drenched the most out of anyone else on the raft. It was funny.

Maggie sat on the side and paddled as hard as she could, but considering how short her arms are, sometimes the paddle hardly reached the water.

It was a great time! Our guide was awesome, and the river is extremely high/fast right now because the amount of rain and the time of year. So we hit some big rapids going real fast! We loved it and are looking forward to going again later in the summer, when the water isn't quite so cold! Come visit us and we will take you all!!!!

Oh, and Cegie got into town Friday night! We have been having so much fun. The weather has been super rainy though so that stinks. Hopefully it will get better...supposedly it may snow tonight. We are hoping this is not true. We don't do well with snow. May have to call in sick to work tomorrow if it is snowing!

And this is the mastiff that stays at Jackson Hole whitewater! She belongs to the owner. She was precious! And HUGE!

Jenny Lake

We saw some fox running across the road.

Elk in the national park.

This afternoon Suzanne and Heloise went out to Jenny Lake. We drove through the Grand Teton National Park, which was beautiful! We saw some elk on the side of the road. We've been looking for a moose but haven't seen any yet.... We got a little lost but we finally made it to Jenny Lake, which is right in front of the Grand Tetons. It was amazing! The water was a blue/green color and you could see straight to the bottom. They have a place where you can rent boats or go on boat rides. Were gonna go back one day with everyone and play on the lake. We decided to hike 2.5 miles to the hidden falls. It was a great hike that took us all around the lake, through the mountains and to these falls/creek. We didn't get to stay too long because it was getting late and we were kinda scared. But it was really fun and me made it out just before dark. We did see a deer on the path on the way back. We were really scared of it but it didnt seem to mind us at all!

Our new roomies have arrived!

We finally have a full house! We went from 3, to 6. Heloise, Loren, and Claire all arrived this week. Last night was our first night out together! We went to Bluegrass Night at the Wort. It was a lot of fun! I wish we had gotten a picture of all 6 of us. But this is Claire, Loren, Maggie and Suzanne. Claire found a job today at a rafting company... and Heloise and Loren are babysitting.

We have been doing a lot of hiking lately. There are so many trails all over the place. We bought a book and have been trying out different ones. There are some pretty amazing views!

Well we will keep you updated! We miss all of you!
